The Replaceable Component

January 26, 2012

A printer ink cartridge or inkjet cartridge is a replaceable component of an inkjet printer and is the part that contains the ink that is disposed onto the paper during the printing process. This cartridge sometimes contains the print head itself as well. Each of these ink cartridges contains one or more partitioned ink reservoirs and some manufacturers also add electronic contacts and a chip that can communicate with the printer with regards to the ink levels at any given time. The consumer inkjet printers made by Canon, HP and Lexmark use thermal inkjet, which means that inside each partition filled with ink there is also a heating element with a tiny metal plate or resistor. The printer sends a signal to the resistor and a tiny current flows through it to make it warm. The ink around the heated plate is vaporised into an air bubble that is forced out of the nozzle onto the paper.
